Question by :
Sciatic Nerve Pain in my left hip?
a few years back i pulled a muscle that healed around my ciatic nerve and it caused excruciating pain. it might be back but now it hurts again, perhaps it could be from carpentry at school, im constantly climbing ladders and scaffolding. lifting heavy wood… etc. my question is “What could i do to ease the pain?” and stretching hurts it worse
Terry, I am fairly sure that it is not your sciatic nerve that is bothering you. The muscles that are in your hips are my guess as to what is bothering you. If you are right handed then if I am right it is most likely but not guaranteed to be on the left side. The reason for this is that you have developed an imbalance in your muscles. The muscles involved are the lattissimus dorsi and the gluteals. I suggest that you get a referral to a physical therapist and have them work on this. In the meantime try these movements to open up your back and hips. Sit in a straight chair and raise the left arm up as high as it will go and then return it to the side. Now do the right arm the same way. You will note that one arm went up higher than the other so start with the arm that went higher. Raise that arm up as high as you can for 30 seconds and then rest it for 15 seconds. Repeat that cycle twice more and then do the opposite arm exactly the same way 3 times. Next, turn your head to the left as far as it can go and then go to the right. One direction is going to turn further so start in that direction. Turn your head as far as you can in that direction for 30 seconds and then rest it for 15 seconds. Repeat that twice more and then do the opposite direction 3 times exactly the same way. Now get up and walk around. There should be less pain in the back and hips plus more mobility in those areas. Return to the chair and keep the feet and hips planted as you turn the body to the left as far as you can without getting into any pain. Now turn to the right as far as you can without any pain. One direction is going to turn further so start there. Turn in that direction as far as you can without pain for 30 seconds and then rest for 15. Repeat this twice more and then do the opposite direction 3 times exactly the same way. Lastly, bring the Left knee up as close to the Right shoulder as possible and then do the Right knee up as close to the Left shoulder as possible. Once combination will get closer so start there. Bring that knee up as close to the opposite shoulder as possible without pain for 30 seconds and then rest for 15. Repeat this twice more and then do the opposite combination 3 times exactly the same way. Stand up and walk around. There should be less pain and more mobility. Do this at least twice a day and more if possible.
There re also some homeopathic & herbal remedies which you can discuss with your doc or even take yourself.
Rhus tox (30C) is a remedy well-known for supporting the back and associated tissue, especially for those who tend to lift heavy loads, whereas Colocynthis (30C) is recommended for supporting the health and comfort of the nerves and nervous system as a whole.
Zanthoxylum clava herculis, Devil’s claw, Arctium lappa (Burdock) and German Chamomile are some herbs that soothe the sciatic nerve & relieve the pain of sciatica. They reduce inflammation and relieves pressure on the sciatic nerve. They also support the health of the spinal canal by preventing its calcification and stenosis
